Happy Memorial Day
In the past year I’ve had two great friends enter into military service, one of which is now deployed in Afghanistan.  The stories that they’ve told me of the trainings they’ve gone through, the situations they’ve been prepared for, and the experiences they’ve already had have helped to make the life of a soldier more real and understandable to me.  I’m grateful to live in a country in which we can freely live without oppression from governing rule and I’m also burdened to pray for those in countries in our world currently living under strong oppression.  It’s because of those soldiers who fought for radical concepts like democracy and freedom that we are able to live the liberated lifestyles that we can in America.  The red, white, and blue not only represent a powerful nation, but more importantly those colors represent many lives that were sacrificed for us to live in freedom that many people in our world may never experience.  May we remember today those family members, friends, and fellow countrymen who have made difficult sacrifices and may we not take for granted the freedom that we get to experience daily that many others in our world cannot.
